Legendary Kamameshi Bento

Episode 2 -  Kamameshi, a Bitter Sweet Memory

The legendary "Kamameshi Bento" is really a Japanese mum's taste, full of mountain treasures.  We used to get "TOUGE NO KAMAMESHI"(rice boiled with various ingredients in a small pot served at a mountain pass) at the Shinetsu Line, Yokokawa Station.

The Kamameshi Bento was used to sell at the station platform, where passengers rush to buy on through the windows on the train.  But with the opening of the Nagano Bullet Train in 1997, the route from Yokokawa to Karuizawa on the Shinano Line waas closed.  As a result, there is no scenerry where the platform was crowded with pssengers buying bento for lunch.

Nowadays the Kamameshi Bento are available at various paces in Tokyo.  Although the sales methods have been varied, the original formula and its warm household taste have never changed.
