House Bento Party in Kamakura

One day in September, Yoriko and I were invited to Sachiko’s house in Kamakura.  Yoriko and Sachiko were my classmates at senior high school.  Kamakura was a political center in 12th century. Famous Shogun set up a military government in this place and the Samurai culture flourished, and there are many Zen Buddhism temples and shrines.  It attracts many people for its cultural and natural beauty.

Three of us gathered at the Kinokuniya store near the Kamakura station around midday, where we have bought favorite Bento box. Sachiko prepared Chawan Mushi(steamed hotchpotch), fruits, chocolate and Japanese sweets for us.

Sachiko’s house is approximately 10 minutes by car to the mountain side of Kamakura-yama. Her house is on the steep hill, and spacious and contemporary style with patio and back yard.  Such a large house (about 350m2)in the Japanese standard is a dream for city dwellers like me.

Rice cooked with bamboo shoot, steamed hotchpotch with chestnut, Matsutake mushrooms are typical autumn foods.

Although it was a rainy day and we could not walk outside, our chatting and laughing never end.
