Japanese Restaurant HINOYA

HINOYA is proud of its 30-year history serving authentic, traditional high-class Japanese meals (Kaiseki Ryori) in the TORITSUDAI area in Meguro.  My friend and I visited the restaurant, which recently re-opened after a yearlong renovation, for lunch.

HINOYA is a traditional Japanese restaurant, but its entrance is unusually stylish.  It has several kinds of private rooms with tables & chairs, large Japanese style tatami rooms for parties and a Japanese Tea Ceremony room.  The Tea Room was constructed in the traditional Japanese style architecture without a use of nails.

The atmosphere inside is relaxing and comfortable, and the servers wearing kimono are helpful. The food is nicely presented and has a mild and gentle flavor.  In Japan, flavors vary depending on the region. In the Kansai/Shikoku regions, they are more subtle and light.

The chef is from Ehime Prefecture in Shikoku, which is famous as one of the leading producers of citrus fruit and marine products. They serve wide vriety of sea food, including Ehime specialities catering to many tastes and occasions.

The owner came to our room dressed in a kimono to welcome us and told us about the restaurant using a photo album.  Then she showed us several other rooms and the food.  She was friendly and nice and made us feel at home.  Some days later, she kindly informed us that there will be a "Tea Ceremony event" on 13th November (Price: ¥16,000, including meals & tea ceremony).

It is conveniently located near Toritsudai Station on the Toyoko Line.  It is only a 1 minute walk from there.  It faces a busy street, but is quiet inside.  Toritsudai is not really in a busy downtown neighborhood, like Shibuya or Shinjuku, but it is not so far from Shibuya (about 15 ~ 20 min. by train) .  I would recommend to visit it for lunch or dinner with a group or even with kids.
