JULY 2023

July 9: Tokyo Gendai at Pacifico Yokohama

I visited the contemporary art fair in Yokohama with NYU Alumni members. It is a new contemporary art fair featuring 73 leading art galleries from Japan, Asia Pacific, and around the globe. There were 6 sectors to introduce from world-famous artists to emerging talent. It was such an exciting time to see cutting-edge artwork in one place.

This may be the first step for Tokyo to become a contemporary art center in the world.

July 2:

The HOT summer is upon us.  The summer heat in Tokyo can be suffocating and the humidity unbearable for everybody.

We visited Nagasaki in the early summer. It was hot and humid, but the weather was almost fine.

Historic rainfall and flooding hit western Japan since last week. The heaviest rainfall in decades has caused destruction over large parts of the country, particularly in Kyushu.

We would like to express our sympathy to the people afflicted by the flooding and landslides.

It is the season where serious heatstroke occurs in Japan. The major causes of heatstroke are high temperature and humidity.  Our bodies cannot control the heat of the core temperature, because sweat cannot evaporate in high-humidity conditions.

When you travel in Japan in summer, make sure you stay hydrated, otherwise, you can easily get heat exhaustion or heatstroke.
